The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) Sokode Hall and its three annexes—SBBS Hostel, Edna Hostel and Berock Hostel—have successfully held their first-ever Joint Hall Week and Homecoming Celebration, marking a significant milestone in the Hall’s history.
The week-long event, held from Wednesday, July 15 to Sunday, July 19, 2026, was themed “NEXA – A New Experience (Homecoming Edition)” and brought together students, alumni and other stakeholders to strengthen unity, leadership, wellness and community engagement across the Hall community.
Launching the celebration, Sokode Hall President, Mr. Mensah Isaac Newton, explained that the concept “NEXA” was inspired by the Latin word ‘nexus’, meaning connection or unity. He described the occasion as historic, noting that it was the first time Sokode Hall and all three annexes had come together to celebrate as one community. He encouraged residents to uphold discipline, mutual respect and the values of the Hall.
The launch ceremony was chaired by the Dean of Students, Professor Judith A. Torgbor, who urged students to build positive networks by surrounding themselves with trustworthy friends. She also cautioned students against accommodation fraud, revealing that some students had fallen victim to scammers posing as landlords. To address the issue, she announced plans by the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) to establish a verified database of landlords through a Google Form system.
Professor Torgbor further advised students to prioritise their safety, particularly during examination periods when campus activity is often reduced. She encouraged students to avoid walking alone, remain vigilant while travelling and move in the company of friends whenever possible. While acknowledging ongoing efforts by the University to enhance security, she stressed the importance of personal responsibility in ensuring safety.
The formal unveiling of the NEXA concept was undertaken by the Hall Master, Dr. David Adedia, during the launch programme. Activities that marked the celebration include health screening and market day, aerobics sessions, sporting competitions and a thanksgiving service, all aimed at promoting the physical, social and spiritual well-being of students.
The maiden Joint Hall Week and Homecoming Celebration concluded with a renewed commitment to fostering stronger bonds among residents of Sokode Hall and its annexes, while creating lasting memories through the shared NEXA experience.
