Overview

About the Department  

 

This Department of Performance Audit & Investigations examines the use of the University’s resources to evaluate whether those resources are being used in the most effective and efficient manner to fulfill the University’s mission and objectives. That is, Value For Money (VFM) audits.  

 

Key auditable areas covered by this Department include Library Resources, Laboratories, Vocational Training Programme, Faculty Teaching Load, Transport Services, Students Hostels, Human Resources, Admissions & Examinations Processes, Works & Physical Development and Verification of Students’ Entry Results.  

 

Also, where fraudulent activity is present or suspected, it is this Department that conducts investigations to among other reasons, confirm the presence and extent of the fraud and also to provide the necessary evidence for legal and administrative purposes.  

 

The Head of the Department reports to the Director of Internal Audit.  

The Department is organized into the following Units:  

1. Performance Audits Unit

Welcome Message 

Welcome to the Department of Performance Audit & Investigations of the Directorate of Internal Audit, University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS).  

 

The Department is responsible for providing independent and objective assessments of the economy, efficiency, effectiveness and integrity of the University’s operations, programmes and activities. Our mandate is to support Management and Council by evaluating whether resources are being used optimally and whether institutional objectives are being achieved in an accountable and transparent manner.  

 

Through performance audits, we examine systems, processes and service delivery to identify opportunities for improvement, promote value for money and enhance institutional performance. Our investigative function focuses on the timely, fair and confidential examination of suspected irregularities, misconduct, fraud and breaches of policies, laws and regulations in accordance with established procedures and professional standards.  

 

We adopt a balanced, evidence-based and professional approach in the discharge of our duties, ensuring objectivity, confidentiality and due process at all times. Our work is to strengthen controls, promote ethical conduct, deter misconduct and contribute to continuous improvement across the University.  

 

We remain committed to supporting UHAS in achieving its strategic objectives through strengthened governance, accountability and performance excellence in health and allied sciences education, research and service.
